A Functional Approach
to Health and Wellness Coaching

My philosophy of how to support a healthy body and mind and how to coach a person back to health is anchored in evidence. Four pillars hold this philosophy up and provide a structure for planning how to guide you to a body full of vitality.

                                           

You might have heard it stated that “food is medicine.” I couldn’t agree more. But guess what? Now we know that the proper amount of exercise, sleep, and stress management is also providing medicine to our bodies! We have an internal pharmacy within our body and it’s all free!

What does FUNCTIONAL mean in health and wellness???

Functional: of or having a special activity, purpose, or task; relating to the way in which something works or operates​

 

Have you heard the term “functional” floating around, like functional medicine and functional nutrition? A functional approach to health and wellness focuses on HOW our bodies are intended to work and investigates WHY it might not be working in the right way, causing weight gain, fatigue, brain fog, aches and pains, belly discomfort and many other problems (including diabetes, autoimmune issues, cardiovascular disease). Using a functional approach reveals the root cause of problematic symptoms or illnesses. The goal is then to address the WHY. Go back to basics and encourage and support the body to function as nature wanted. So often, this is all the body is asking for.

I get it. So many patients, clients, friends, and colleagues have told me these same thoughts.

I do not support fad diet culture. I do not believe one size fits all for any aspect of lifestyle recommendations. Even though we have metabolic and biochemical principles that apply to all humans, each person is unique, and in that way, each goal and action plan is a custom project!
